Safety

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Seltos X-Line SX offers optional Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist-Reverse that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The Q3 doesn’t offer automatic braking for stationary objects directly to the rear.

Both the Seltos and the Q3 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, driver alert monitors, available all-wheel drive, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

Warranty

The Seltos comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Q3’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Kia’s powertrain warranty covers the Seltos 6 years and 50,000 miles longer than Audi covers the Q3. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the Q3 ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are almost 3 times as many Kia dealers as there are Audi dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Seltos’ warranty.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Kia Seltos uses regular unleaded gasoline. The Q3 requires premium, which can cost on average about 84.9 cents more per gallon.

Transmission

An eight-speed automatic is standard on the Kia Seltos X-Line SX, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a seven-speed automatic is available for the Q3.

The Seltos has a standard continuously variable transmission (CVT). With no “steps” between gears, it can keep the engine at the most efficient speed for fuel economy, or keep it at its peak horsepower indefinitely for maximum acceleration. The Q3 doesn’t offer a CVT.

Suspension and Handling

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the Seltos is .5 inches wider in the front and 1.3 inches wider in the rear than the track on the Q3.

For better maneuverability, the Seltos’ turning circle is 3.5 feet tighter than the Q3’s (35.2 feet vs. 38.7 feet).

Chassis

The Kia Seltos may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 400 to 850 pounds less than the Audi Q3.

The Seltos is 4 inches shorter than the Q3, making the Seltos easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Passenger Space

The Seltos has 19.4 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Q3 (103.4 vs. 84).

The Seltos has 2.4 inches more front headroom, 1.4 inches more front legroom, 1.3 inches more rear headroom, 2.9 inches more rear legroom and .3 inches more rear shoulder room than the Q3.

Cargo Capacity

The Seltos has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Q3 with its rear seat up (27.8 vs. 25 cubic feet). The Seltos has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Q3 with its rear seat folded (64.2 vs. 50 cubic feet).

Towing

Standard on the Seltos uses the Electronic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The Q3 doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Ergonomics

The Seltos offers a remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The Q3 doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Seltos has a standard rear fixed intermittent wiper with a full on position. The rear wiper standard on the Q3 only has an intermittent setting, so in a hard rain visibility isn’t as good.

Optional air-conditioned seats in the Seltos X-Line SX keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The Q3 doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

Compared to traditional radio, the Kia Seltos’ standard SiriusXM satellite radio provides an unmatched listening experience. Its extensive coverage guarantees consistent, crystal-clear reception across the continental U.S., and access to over 100 channels dedicated to a multitude of genres, including music, news, sports, talk shows, and comedy, many with only limited commercial breaks. Satellite radio costs extra on the Q3.

Model Availability

The Seltos is available in both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The Q3 doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

Recommendations

The Kia Seltos outsold the Audi Q3 by over two to one during 2025.
