Compare the2027 Kia EV3 VS 2026 Volvo EX40

Both the EV3 and the EX40 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The EV3 comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The EX40’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Kia’s powertrain warranty covers the EV3 6 years and 50,000 miles longer than Volvo covers the EX40. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the EX40 ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are almost 3 times as many Kia dealers as there are Volvo dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the EV3’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Kia vehicles are better in initial quality than Volvo vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Kia above average in initial quality. With 77 more problems per 100 vehicles, Volvo is rated below average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2026 Auto Issue reports that Kia vehicles are more reliable than Volvo vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Kia 5 places higher in reliability than Volvo.

The EV3 GT’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The EX40 doesn’t offer launch control.

For better maneuverability, the EV3’s turning circle is 3.4 feet tighter than the EX40’s (34 feet vs. 37.4 feet).

The Kia EV3 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 200 to 550 pounds less than the Volvo EX40.

The EV3 Light/Wind/Land is 5.5 inches shorter than the EX40, making the EV3 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The design of the Kia EV3 amounts to more than styling. The EV3 has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .275 Cd. That is significantly lower than the EX40 (.329) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the EV3 get better fuel mileage.

The front grille of the EV3 uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The EX40 doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The EV3 has 2.4 inches more front headroom, .8 inches more front legroom, .1 inches more front shoulder room and 1.3 inches more rear legroom than the EX40.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the EV3’s rear seats recline. The EX40’s rear seats don’t recline.
