Compare the2027 Kia EV3 VS 2026 Mercedes CLA EQ

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the EV3 are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The CLA EQ doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

Both the EV3 and the CLA EQ have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The EV3 comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The CLA EQ’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Kia’s powertrain warranty covers the EV3 6 years and 50,000 miles longer than Mercedes covers the CLA EQ. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the CLA EQ ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are over 2 times as many Kia dealers as there are Mercedes dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the EV3’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Kia vehicles are better in initial quality than Mercedes vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Kia above average in initial quality. With 29 more problems per 100 vehicles, Mercedes is rated below average.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Kia vehicles are more reliable than Mercedes vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Kia above average in long-term dependability. With 47 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, Mercedes is rated below average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2026 Auto Issue reports that Kia vehicles are more reliable than Mercedes vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Kia 9 places higher in reliability than Mercedes.

On the EPA test cycle the EV3 gets better mileage than the CLA EQ:

The EV3 Wind/Land FWD can travel longer on a full charge than the CLA 250+ EQ RWD with its standard motor (321 miles vs. 317 miles).

The EV3 GT’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The CLA EQ doesn’t offer launch control.

For better traction, the EV3 has larger standard tires than the CLA EQ (215/60R17 vs. 205/55R17). The EV3 GT-Line/GT’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the CLA EQ (235/45R19 vs. 225/45R18).

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the EV3 is .2 inches wider in the front and 1.2 inches wider in the rear than the track on the CLA EQ.

For better maneuverability, the EV3’s turning circle is 2.8 feet tighter than the CLA EQ’s (34 feet vs. 36.8 feet).

The Kia EV3 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 300 to 700 pounds less than the Mercedes CLA EQ.

The EV3 Light/Wind/Land is 1 foot, 4.6 inches shorter than the CLA EQ, making the EV3 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The front grille of the EV3 uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The CLA EQ doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The EV3 has .8 inches more rear headroom, 3.8 inches more rear legroom and 1.6 inches more rear shoulder room than the CLA EQ.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the EV3’s rear seats recline. The CLA EQ’s rear seats don’t recline.

The EV3 has a 1500 lbs. towing capacity. The CLA EQ has no towing capacity.

The EV3’s standard Smart Key allows you to unlock the doors from either front door handle, open the cargo door, and start the vehicle, all without removing the key from pocket or purse. Keyless-Start standard on the CLA EQ only offers hands-free access for the ignition, none to unlock the car.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the EV3 has a standard rear wiper. The CLA EQ doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

Standard air-conditioned seats in the EV3 Land/GT-Line/GT keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The CLA EQ doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

The EV3 has a standard dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. Dual zone air conditioning costs extra on the CLA EQ.

The EV3 GT’s Smart Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Smart Parking Assist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The CLA EQ’s automatic parking system does not offer parking by remote control.
